Location:
University of Southern California, Los Angeles
Project Description:
This project involved earthquake repair, structural strengthening, and modernization to one of USC's most beloved original buildings. Doheny Library is a five-story, 1931 Northern Italian Romanesque-style building eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The historic, hand- painted ceiling in the reference room was painstakingly cleaned and retouched; while rich marbles, stained glass, travertine, and iron fixtures were prudently protected throughout construction. Preconstruction services on this project lead to its early and within-budget completion, with no change orders. This project won the 2001 Los Angeles Conservancy Award for Historic Preservation, as well as the California Preservation Foundation 2002 Design Award for Restoration.
