Morley Construction performed structural concrete services for the seismic retrofit and repair of this historic structure. Work included a completely new building foundation, a new basement-level beam and floor system, the isolation and reconstruction of foundations of four major stairwells, and construction of a new underground arcade connecting the north and south wings. A moat surrounding the structure was also constructed to allow horizontal movement in excess of 16" during a seismic event. This project was honored as Project of the Year by the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute.
