Crest Apartments

Crest Apartments

Crest Apartments is a 64-unit apartment complex for homeless individuals, with 23 units reserved for formerly homeless and disabled veterans. Located on a busy thoroughfare near two freeways, the project provides easy connections to public transportation and area resources. Designed by architect Michael Maltzan for repeat-client Skid Row Housing Trust, the permanent supportive housing model includes individual efficiency units with on-site supportive services and community spaces including lobby, resident lounge, community kitchen, laundry facilities, conference room, health clinic, and outdoor community garden.

The LEED Platinum project integrates a number of sustainable features including permeable pavers, filtering rainwater into two bioswales below the parking area; drought resistant trees and plantings; windows in each unit provide ample natural light and air; Energy Star-rated refrigerators and range hoods, bio-based marmoleum composition floors, high-efficiency bathroom fixtures, and tile made from recycled content in all units; highly efficient ductless mechanical units for heating/cooling; solar thermal panels providing more than 50% of the heated water needs; and the paint, grout, mortar, and construction adhesives used throughout the building are zero or minimal VOC products.
